The origins of the DS-9 ship called the Iron Angel are unknown.  Approximately 15 years before the Battle of Yavin, it was owned by mercenary captain Bynjamin S'sko and his group.  Fleeing from Imperial agents, the Jedi Knight Rabin Dreadstar booked passage with several of S'sko's operatives aboard the Iron Angel.  The crew was killed in an attack by TIE fighters, and when the Iron Angel never arrived at its planned destination, S'sko and several more of his agents came looking.

They caught up with Dreadstar just in time to join him in making his getaway from a group of Imperial Stormtroopers.  Their flight brought them to the planet Rigadoré.  During a conflict with Imperial Captain Ral Vekta, S'sko and his crew were killed, and Dreadstar barely escaped with his life aboard the Iron Angel.

For the next fifteen years, Dreadstar lived in hiding on the planet Winath, and allowed the smuggler Skeevo Phlatus and his partners to use the Iron Angel in exchange for paying for the Jedi's room and board.

Upon the arrival of the apprentice Jedi Trevor Vanth, Dreadstar reclaimed the Angel, over the protests of Skeevo.  Dreadstar and Vanth returned to Rigadoré, where the elder Jedi was killed by Mara Jade, who had been posing as his long-lost daughter.  Barely escaping with his life, Vanth took posession of the Iron Angel, and it remains in his posession to this day, helping him to serve the Rebel Alliance in Wraith Task Force.
